We are a small education organization. We've been asked to assist in producing test questions to be used in building a pool Algebra I quesstions based on 180 very short lessons or units. Overall, there are a 360 Algebra 1-specific objectives (all of the lessons have two objectives). For instance, one of the concept is: "How do we perform mathematical operations on numbers written in scientific notation?" where a student would be instructed and then tested on the two objectives: "Define the properties of scientific notation." and "Add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers written in scientific notation." So, for each lesson, we need to produce a quantity of test questions that would make up a pool of questions that can be used to make a quiz.
We are looking for a temporary, part-time, person that can help us with either one or both of the following two phases of this work to augment work that our staff is doing. We might hire one person to do both phases, or a person to handle just one of these needs (and we'll do the other in-house).
These are the two phases:
1) Research and locate or write out a sample question for each objective for all lessons based on their algebra 1 teaching experience and knowledge, and
2) Given example test questions for lessons/objectives, generate between 70-80 additional, similar questions and enter these into a software program.
-- The position is part-time, flexible, and you can work at home with the exception of an initial meeting or two near downtown San Diego to recieve some training.
-- Overall Technical Requirements: You must have a Windows PC to run the question-editing software (we will provide), and access to the Internet to do searches for problems
-- Payment: We can set up these positions as temporary employees or as consultants, and will pay by the hour regardless. If hired as a temporary employee, we will add you to our payroll as a temp and make appopriate income tax deductions on your payments. As a consultant, we will pay a slightly higher hourly rate, but you will be responsible for all payroll taxes and filings.
-- Pay rate: Depending on experience, $12.50-17 per hour as a temporary employee, or $15-19 as a subcontractor.
PHASE I - Test Question Prototyping
The person hired will research and locate, or write out sample questions for each concept and all lessons using their algebra 1 experience and knowledge and research. The basic description of this work is as follows. The role for this person is to read the concepts/objectives for each lesson from an Excel spreadsheet, and create OR locate a few representative test questions that address each objective. There should be 1 or 2 questions for each objective, so the total number of sample questions will probably be between 400-600. In essence, what this phase will accomplish is to build an binder of questions, organized by concept/objective. When producing these sample questions, each question can be hand-written clearly or copied from the public domain. Later, when the actual pool develoment is done, those items will be created uniquely and entered in a computer-form. The sample questions created during the prototype process will be used as one of a few references by the developers who will write the actual pool questions.
You must meet the following conditions:
* A math teacher with sufficient experience in Algebra I (9th grade) that they can read a concept and know the kind of problem that would test knowledge of the concept, or, have resources they know of to rapidly locate an example question that can test the concept.
* Famililar with the California Algebra I math standards
* Have experience creating or delivering Algebra I tests/quizzes
A plus
* Have the ability to use MS Word, and have clear handwriting and drawing
* Can work efficiently and self-motivated
* Have experience doing web searches to locate information
Duration: This work is immediate and will last about one month or a total of 80 hours
PHASE II - Test Question Composing
For each lesson, we will be producing a few dozen total pool items. There will be about 2-4 different format/style of questions based on the number and complexity of objectives in the lesson. The pool items will be based on: the style/format of exemplar items that our internal developers will create, on the description of objectives and essential questions about the concept, and on sample items that will be provided in a binder. Importantly, these items that are to be composed will be unique variations of the example questions we will provide. You will NOT be expected to create brand new question styles, formats, or types, just variations of existing questions (different functions, values, etc., but set up similarly).
For each developed pool item, the item must be entered into a specific Windows computer program for creating test questions (an appropriate software license will be provided). If the person who does this work is familar with basic graphic editing programs, we will additionally supply a program that can be used to create plots, charts, graphs, equations, functions and number lines.
You must have these skills:
* A math teacher with sufficient experience in Algebra I (9th grade)
* Famililar with the California Algebra I math standards
* Have experience creating or delivering Algebra I tests/quizzes
A plus
* Have the ability to use MS Word's equation editor (or like)
* Have entered test questions in a structured assessment system (like Respondus 4.0)
Duration: This part of the position will start shortly after completion of the prototyping process and last 6-8 months at 10-15 hours per week consistently (or a shorter number of months if you can work more hours per week and produce sufficient output)

When is the last time you learned about money? Third grade maybe? The economic environment in our country has been changing over the last ten years and we need to be proactive to grow and protect our college savings and retirement accounts. Pensions are almost a thing of the past. Many existing pensions are in trouble. Who knows if Social Security will be there for you when you retire. The stock markets have experienced the worst 10 year span since the beginning of tracking returns in the 1820's. Taxes may be going up to support our deficit. That can affect the net effect of your retirement savings when you are ready to make withdrawals. We are living longer and many people are worried about outliving their savings.
At Five Rings Financial, we teach Middle Americans basic classes regarding money, "Money 101". We discuss the economics of money, which never change, though the economic environment does, along with financial products that come along to provide solutions. We help everyday people how to refinance their finances, putting them into a better situation and we do it through education, not sales techniques. We do end up selling products, some that pay commissions indefinitely (nice for retirement income!), but we do it in a fun, educational setting, building relationships and helping put people on track to become financially secure.
78 million Baby Boomers have just started to retire and don't know what to do to keep their money safe, receive good returns and create income that will last for their lifetime, while leaving a legacy to their children. There are products that can fulfill these needs. How about "Tax-Free Retirement" strategies? The wealthy are aware of these. Help us educate Middle Americans.
There are many senior Americans that have already retired and are seeing their savings eroded by market declines. Unfortunately, many must go back to work because the decrease in the value of their portfolios. Some have put their money in savings vehicles that return less than 2%, not even keeping up with inflation, decreasing their future buying power. There are solutions to these problems. It just takes a little education.
At Five Rings Financial, we provide full training. You can start out part-time or full-time and the hours are flexible. This is a great career for women, too. We have a program that is "women teaching women about their finances" and is growing fast!
We have a fun and encouraging environment. First year commissions average about $60,000 full-time and $30,000 half-time. The Financial Services industry is the highest paying industry in the world. You earn advances on commissions and receive renewals each year on most products. There are opportunities for a career in management (additional income opportunities) for the right individuals. You are only limited buy your attitude and actions.
We are seeking positive people that are self-starters, motivated, outgoing and have good people skills. We have a proven system of learning and activities that can get you started right away.
If you fit this description, please call us at 720-210-7672 or email your resume to set up an interview. Have a great day!!!
