Job Description
IBIS Advisors, an international human resources company, is seeking freelance contributors to write monthly news articles about employee benefits in various countries (list included below). Ideal applicants will be comfortable researching in another language, particularly Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian.
This is a freelance position. Payment will be on a per-assignment basis. A paid training session will cover the tone, style, and content of articles. Transportation costs to attend this training are not covered. This training session will take place in our office in Washington, DC. Exceptions may be made for internationally-based writers.
It is expected that contributors will be assigned three to six articles a month. The average article length is 400 words. Articles are delivered to employee benefits managers of multinational companies through a subscription news service. All articles are published without bylines.
News articles cover ongoing legislation, regulatory changes, and trends affecting the employee benefits environment in the country. Specifically, this includes information about employer contributions (to social security programs), retirement, survivor's benefits, short-term disability, long-term disability, workers’ compensation, unemployment, medical benefits, maternity and family benefits, holidays and annual leave, other leave, employment conditions, termination, and incentives and perquisites.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position will possess most, if not all, of the following skills.
-- Technical Writing: Excellent technical writer in English.
-- Language Ability: Ability to read technical information in a non-English language (particularly Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian).
-- Employee Benefits Experience: Experience in employee benefits (pensions, insurance, etc.).
-- Computer Skills: Computer skills including proficiency with MS Office applications.
