Part-Time Web Content Writer
You're a writer, right? Of course - that's why you're reading this ad. Well, it just so happens that we pay writers to write articles. How convenient! It works like this: writers send their work in to us, and we pay you every two weeks via direct deposit. We're a laid back company, with consistent work, and our hours are as flexible as they come. Sound good? Well, it is.
The Job
You'll be writing articles about, well, all kinds of things. Mostly our sites include content about subjects like adult education, finance and home improvement services. The work is steady and consistent, and everybody is treated with respect.
The Gritty Details
Our 1099 writers work from home and create their own schedules. We know that “work from home” is usually a red alert sign for “scam,” but we're not a scam. We just can't afford to move all our writers to California. All you'll need is somewhere with an Internet connection and a place to sit and be comfortable. Once you've got those things, here's what we expect from you:
You have to commit to 15 hours per week. That's how we keep things running - everybody pulls their weight.
We can't pay writers enough to make them rich. But we do pay unfailingly for work done, every two weeks. If your work is well written and done in a timely manner, we'll increase your hourly wage the longer you stick around:
0-2 Months (Probationary Period): $8/hr (or prevailing minimum wage)
2-5 Months: $9/hr
5+ Months: $10/hr, with potential promotion to rank of editor
Quick Note: Wage increases are based on publishing manager evaluations.
We expect you to generate well-written, timely and informative content for our websites. Simple enough, right?
You'll format articles using Wiki. If you don't know Wiki, we'll teach you.
Here are our requirements for applicants:
Some college experience in a relevant field, such as English or journalism. Freelance writing experience is preferred.
This may sound obvious, but you need a basic understanding of the Internet.
Please speak and write English fluently, since our sites are intended for an English speaking audience. In our experience, native English speakers perform best in this position.
Naturally, you'll need strong writing, grammar and editing skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of AP style is a plus, but it's not required.
Familiarity with Wiki formatting is also a plus.
Finally, you've gotta be self-disciplined and able to work well remotely. The main thing is, there's nobody looking over your shoulder, and if you can't handle this, we can't hire you. Also, you must be comfortable with both the pay we offer and the hours we require. If you have a problem with either of these, we're not a fit for you.
About Our Company
Our core business is creating themed directories on the Internet and promoting them using a variety of ethical Internet marketing tactics. That's right: ethical. Everything we put together is designed with a long-term outlook, and we take pride in the fact that we don't believe in spam, offensive banners, pop-ups or any of the other obnoxious stuff that can make using the Internet as frustrating as rush-hour traffic. Our content team – the writers – submit all of their work online through our Content Management System.
Location
Our primary office is located in Foster City, Calif., but our writers work from home. Or anywhere else they like.
Application Process
You must live in the United States and be over the age of 21. If you're interested, please visit our website, where you'll upload copies of your resume and two writing samples. If you’re selected for the first round, you’ll receive an email on Tuesday, March 16th, with information about a group Q&A webinar. In case you're wondering, the Q&A will cover our business model, websites and the writing process. You only need to attend one Q&A, which usually last 30 minutes or less, and you'll be able to choose from multiple options on Wednesday and Friday of that week (17th and 19th).
