Proof Reading Opportunity For A College Student details visit
09/05/2010
I'm looking for a college student majoring in English to proof/critique my draft work before I pass it up the 'ladder'. A student far enough along in their studies to have successfully completed a college level creative writing class.
The candidate
must be able to write their critique in a professional fashion. For example, if you don't like a passage, detail why instead of just saying - I don't like that, it sucks. Detail why it sucks.
The work will be submitted to you one chapter at a time and not on an exact timetable.
I have outlined the entire book in detail (twenty chapters). So I'm guesstimating 450 to 600 pages total after I flesh it out. I estimate the candidate will need to be available for the course of a year, barring any interruptions on my part.
The value to the selected candidate will be real job experience that can be listed on their resume along with a bit of 'pocket change'.
This is how it will work
After I finish a chapter, I'll post it on the secure website; Review Basics. It's easy and fun to use - just use the highlight tool on the word/sentence in question, then type your comment in the text box. It's like a lite version of Adobe Pro. I understand your school work comes first, so I'll give you three days to complete the review. That is negotiable and we can work around finals, etc.
I just hate to let basic errors get past me. For example, mixed verb tense.
I'm writing a novel (fiction) about a church youth group. The target audience is older teens to adults - it's not for young readers.
The first assignment/trial (paid of course) is an essay about Jr. High that I just updated.
How do you know if you're a possible candidate? Here are some of the requirements the selected candidate must meet,
1. Must have attended a US high school for four years - to verify that the characters/slang/experiences in the book feel authentic.
2. Must sign a confidentially agreement - must be notarized (to be reimbursed).
3. Agree not to print, store, copy or share any of the material. This is your review.
4. Have a computer with Internet access.
5. Love John Hughes movies and similar movies in that genre - Fast Times at Ridgemont High, etc...
6. Willing to review the sections of the novel where the main character is very critical of organized religion and ministers. (He has good reason.)
7. Have a good sense of humor. I need to know if the passages that are meant to be funny crack you up - or not.
8. Accept that you may not be listed in the published credits, in lieu, I will write you a letter of recommendation naming the project.
9. Not expect or request any introductions to agents, publishers, etc...
10. Currently enrolled in college, must have completed a college creative writing course.
11. I'd consider an English major who graduated in 2010.
12. Must have an address where you can receive snail-mail.
13. Must be responsible for paying their own federal and state taxes.
Please contact me if your interested.
Tell me something about yourself and include just one page of something you've written - poetry is welcome too.

Need A Photoshop Web Graphics Designer Anywhere details visit
09/05/2010
This is an contract project. The project is nothing glamorous, its an image translation project. Basically our client has a series of web sites that supports 18 different languages. When a language is selected all of the html text is translated on the
fly, the graphics however (like navigation, buttons, banners, etc..) that are gifs, jpegs, or png's must reference the specific graphic files from the selected language folder. So theres at least 18 versions of the same graphic, for every graphic with a word on it.
Im looking for an intermediate level or higher graphic designer. I understand, this sounds like a beginner level project, however, if for example one of these sites has 45 "saved" images, that will represent the creation of 815 files.. (45 x 18 languages).. these files are created mainly from specific layout design psd's with different layer groups consisting of 18 layers (one layer for every language). One of the highest priorities is solid file management and image quality consistency. These web sites are extremely professional in terms of image quality, and im a perfectionist down to the pixel. For example, you will be provided with a font roster of over 13 specific fonts.. in some cases the specified language will be too large to fit within the current dimensions of the existing file... again.. judgement, placement, and file management will be key. So please... if you've just "used" photoshop, then you need not apply. I need at the least an intermediate level photoshop "expert".
This job is specific to freelancers only. I dont mind when you work, only that you be reachable via skype or phone. I understand this isnt a project geared towards the "creative" aspect of our profession, however this kind of job is straight forward and direct, it does require a professional to handle, and the pay is decent. I do require that you use at least CS4.
So... if youre looking to earn some extra cash on a fairly easy project that presents some specific challenges, then id love to hear from you. If you've just picked up photoshop, or have never prepared web ready graphics, dont understand how to do intermediate graphic design tasks, or are only looking for projects that tap your creative resources.... please do not respond.
Please reply for compensation levels and to discuss in more detail. I NEED SOMEONE IMMEDIATELY!!!

time bring fresh ideas to the table.
A little bit about us:
* Innovative. We’re a small company (<20 people) developing information awareness platforms for DARPA and other government entities, with a focus around Android.
* Agile. We aim to deliver a good solution in half the time, and succeed. We compete with companies that promise a perfect solution in twice the time, and fail.
* Pragmatic. We use established design patterns, frameworks, libraries, etc. when they make sense, roll our own when they don’t.
* Flexible. We like to use the right tool for the job, and don’t limit our work to any language or platform.
* Distributed. We do have a central office, however, key members of the team are spread across multiple locations, including Arlington VA, Langhorne PA, and Cambridge MA. We favor use of frequent, low overhead, as-needed communication, as opposed to regular scheduled meetings.
Ideal qualities in a candidate:
* You enjoy writing software.
* You’ve taught yourself a new technology recently that you didn’t have to.
* You have at least a couple years of experience, maybe more, in a commercial software development environment.
* You’ve got experience with some or all of the following: Java, C/C++, Android, .Net, Ruby, Javascript, SQL, HTML, CSS.
* You are knowledgeable about some or all of the following: database schema design considerations, object relational mapping, dependency injection/inversion of control, unit testing, source code management, peer to peer networks, data serialization formats, multithreaded application development, interprocess communication patterns, designing for usability, algorithm design and implementation, virtualization technologies.
* You’re comfortable working in a Linux+Windows environment.
We are looking for more than one person, so if you have focused expertise in a subset of the above, definitely get in touch. Also, the above list is not exhaustive, but it does touch on a lot of key technologies and skills that would be useful.
Please provide a couple pieces of information if you get in touch with us:
* Your resume, or a link to it.
* A link to any code samples or independent/open source projects you have worked on and you think would be interesting for us to take a look at.
* Your work status (citizen, permanent resident, etc).
* Any active secret clearance you may have.
Thanks!
